Sensitivity as a Strength

Sensitivity is a gift that is needed in the world. I want to encourage highly sensitive people to value their true self and live a life of their own.

Sensitivity is a gift.

It enables us to sense our own and others' feelings and needs and to understand them in depth. We feel the energies within and around us more intensely, and we have a heightened intuition. We are deeply connected with the universe and our inner selves. Sensitivity allows for particularly sharp senses and a depth of feeling and experience, which also enhances creativity and artistry. The most amazing artists have often been highly sensitive people.

Our society needs more sensitivity. Yet, this quality is sometimes still perceived as a weakness, as our society is built on an old, hyper-masculine model of thinking. Consequently, many sensitive people try to fit in and harden themselves, denying their trueselves. They often think that they feel too much because they are told to “grow a thicker skin”. I was one of these people. After driving myself to burnout by trying to be something I am not, I realized that I can only be happy and thrive as myself.

I have learned that growing a thicker skin is the worst possible thing to do as a sensitive person. It leads to closing your heart and blocking its energy by accumulating layers of feelings that you didn’t allow yourself to feel because you thought you shouldn’t feel that way. In fact, the only way to release emotions is to truly feel them. For example, I get easily hurt when someone is rude to me. Instead of trying to push the feeling away, I nowadays let myself experience it. After a while, the feeling disappears as the energy has moved through me. I’m not afraid of feeling anymore.

Today, I see my sensitivity as a great strength.

I want to say to all sensitive people:
Dare to feel. Dare to experience. Dare to be you. You are needed in this world. ❤️️

When you open your heart as a highly sensitive person, you allow yourself a richness of experience and love so deep that it can’t be described with words.

Instead of trying to adapt to the demands of the environment, it is worth making your life supportive of who you really are. You can find your own rhythm and environment by listening to your body and recognizing what gives you energy and what drains it.

Ask yourself:

In what kind of an environment are you most at ease?

What is your natural daily rhythm?

What kind of work and other activities inspire and energize you?

For me, spending time in peaceful environments such as nature is so important for my well-being. Crowded, noisy places drain me, and I have realized that I don't have to spend time there even if everyone else does. I also embrace my natural daily rhytm: Ilike to get up late and take my time before starting work. I have realized that this does not mean I'm lazy, even if societal programming tells me so. Instead, I listen to the needs of my body. When it comes to work, I can only feel fulfilled when I do work that is aligned with my deepest being and soul's mission. I can't work in a position just for the money or status, as it drains me and leads to a feeling of inner emptiness.

It is important to make time for ourselves to relax and recharge, as we get overloaded easily. For me, such moments are also important during the day, not just in the evenings. In a relaxed state, my energy is not wasted but is available for things that inspire me. Inspiration, in turn, brings new energy and joy into life.

It is possible to live a fulfilling life in this world as a highly sensitive person. This takes courage to let go of the expectations of society and other people and find the way of life that truly serves.

Embrace your uniqueness and always remember your value, you amazing sensitive person. ❤️
